...and I see her every day! It was four weeks ago today that she checked in at Cedars. Ten pints of chemo. 30+ blood tests. 135 "vitals" - pulse/blood pressure/temperature, 120+ bottles of water, lots of visitors, many many homemade meals... and we're all ready for her to come home now. She's getting close. They are still watching the "Polys" (Neutrophils, a type of White Blood Cell) the White Blood Count (WBC), platelets etc. and all the counts are getting close. Platelets are fine, Hemoglobin is fine...Three days ago her WBC was 1.7, today it's 3.1. Normal range is 4.0 - 10. It's higher now than the two weeks before she went in. So it's getting close. I need to know the exact date so I can rent a U-Haul trailer to bring all the stuff home. Actually we've been bringing things home, clothes, books, etc., already. The photo collection on her walls has continued to grow and it's pretty large now. I need to take another picture of it.
To one side of our bed at home are three doors that look out into the yard and trees and plants. I'm looking forward to her being able to see that. The weather has been nice (including an LA oddity last night - July rain!) and everything is lit by the sun in the morning.
She's still hanging on to hair, but it's thin on the sides and in the back, we're not sure what's going to happen there. As for the near future, medically speaking, we don't know all the details. More info coming.
She'll need to have another bone marrow biopsy to see if she can be declared officially "in remission", and at that point we will meet with Dr. Forman at City of Hope to work on the next steps. But for now, getting home and enjoying the day will be quite a prize. She has not left her hospital room for 31 days. It's an incubator and the chick is ready to hatch. xo ph
